Your horse's body is exposed to different types of challenges on a daily basis, which affect the horse's digestive system in the wrong direction. What are GOOD bacteria?

Good bacteria have different names, such as micro-organisms and lactic acid bacteria.

Micro-organisms is a general term for all organisms that are so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye. Some micro-organisms are beneficial and even healthy for our horses. Others are bad. Microorganisms are usually classified into bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Lactic acid bacteria are the microorganisms that produce lactic acid when they break down sugars. Lactic acid bacteria are naturally present in the microbiota (also known as intestinal flora) of the horse. These bacteria are good and help to keep the animal's gastrointestinal system in order and protect it against bad bacteria.

The good and bad bacteria in the intestinal system

The good bacteria that live in the intestines are an important part of maintaining the welfare of the animal. They are responsible for the breakdown of feed and the absorption of nutrients in the intestine. They also fulfill an important function for the animal's immune system. The ratio between good and bad bacteria in the horse's intestines must be such that the GOOD bacteria are the most numerous, so that they can fight the bad bacteria.

GOOD bacteria help the body digest and absorb food and maintain good health. Your horse's body is exposed to different types of challenges that affect the intestinal system on a daily basis. For example, periods of stress, heavy exercise, changes in the environment can decrease the amount of good bacteria and increase the amount of bad bacteria.
